LAKE BUENA VISTA - Florida. The meeting of the minds occurred just before Halloween '97 between TomorrowLand and FantasyLand at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. The globe came to a stop, briefly that afternoon as Gyro Gearloose (HooZoo) and Jon Rolfe met for theories and tea.

Rolfe meets Gearloose

How this photo was made

Gyro Gearloose (Disney-Comics) is an inventor and friend of Donald Duck and his family. People haven't seen too much of him lately. Wayne Zalensky, the scientist who's always shrinking things has center stage nowadays, but Gyro continues his work and teachings as is evident all over Walt Disney World in Places like MGM's American Film Institute which features Home Improvement. It is possible that Tim Allen might be admissable to the creative groups of those who dare to go where no one has had the sense to go before. Or Wayne Zalenski. Who else can shrink things?

Innovators are often questioned because their ideas have never been heard before. Something never heard of or thought about before can be questionable to anyone, therefore hard to accept.

Walt Disney and many others had to fight their way through criticism and doubt to succeed and have given the world a better way of knowing life. Mahatma Gandhi, Alfred Einstein, daVinci, Bob Dylan, Alfred Hitchcock, Charlie Chaplin, Galileo, Goddard, Mohammed Ali, Bill Gates, Ben Franklin .... all these people were willing to look silly and make mistakes just so they could try and create something new. Many more names could be added to the list, people who are more realistic than their critics, because they know the only way to never fail is to never try.

A society grows great when men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in. -- Greek Proverb

It's amazing what ordinary people can do if they set out without preconceived notions. -- Charles Kettering

We are most nearly ourselves when we achieve the seriousness of the child at play. -- Heraclitus

Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. -- Muriel Strode

Crazy people who are productive are geniuses. Crazy people who are rich are eccentric. Crazy people who are neither productive nor rich are just plain crazy. Geniuses and crazy people are both out in the middle of a deep ocean; geniuses swim, crazy people drown. Most of us are sitting safely on the shore. Take a chance and get your feet wet. -- Michael J. Gelb
