20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Nautilus, 1979

Captain Nemo is in there

This is a photo of the Nautilus in 1979.   This year we had one of our numerous cruises with Captain Nemo, exploring the wonders of the deep.   Fantastic creatures under the water were sometimes a little too fantastic, adding to the charm of this memorable ride.

An interesting tidbit for you:   Jules Verne in his Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea sort of invented the periscope.   It didn't exist when he wrote about it, yet he described the periscope in sufficient detail to prevent a later inventor from getting a patent.
