Llyn Padarn

Dolbadarn

Llyn Padarn, Wales
Dolbadarn at Llyn Padarn in Llanberis Pass

Llyn Padarn is a two mile long lake at the entrance of Llanberis Pass, on the northern side of Snowdon. Overlooking the lake is the tower of Dolbadarn Castle. It was in Dolbadarn that Llewelyn Prince of Gwynedd, imprisoned his brother Owain Goch from 1255 to 1277. The now dormant Dinorwic Slate Quarry across the lake, was once the largest in the world. Now the area is known as an outstanding recreational destination. The fishing is great, hiking is rewarding and fun, rock climbing provides challenges for all, and the views are spectacular. Trout at the local restaurant was a spiritual experience.
