Animal Kingdom

Opened in April, 1998, Animal Kingdom is Walt Disney World's newest theme park.   It is not a zoo (NâHTâZû!) and not a typical Disney theme park, and not exactly a combination. It's a totally unique concept.

When you come into the Entrance Plaza you notice a different atmosphere.   This is setting your mood for a trip to Africa and Asia.   It is here you get your strollers and lockers, find Guest Relations, ATMs, and phones. Here you will find the only full service restaurant, the Rainforest Cafe and The Outpost, your first and last chance to buy souvenirs.

Though you may have heard it is enormous (five times the size of Magic Kingdom), you ride through a great deal of it.   Once you pass through the Entrance Plaza into the park, if you've picked up your guide map, you will see by the map that Animal Kingdom is shaped like a wheel.   Discovery Island, home of the Tree of Life, is the hub.   From Discovery Island, the other lands are reached by bridge, five of them leading to The Oasis, DinoLand USA, Asia, Africa, and Camp Minnie-Mickey are on the outer radii.
